Kaoru is the younger of the two twins, he and Hikaru only interacted socially with each other for many, many years. Kaoru realizes though, that they will need to move away from being so co-dependent on each other so that they can have normal relationships outside their own and be able to mature as separate people. Kaoru and his brother, having just had each other for many years, were also fond of their maid they had when the were toddlers. She had promised to keep playing the "Which One is Hikaru?" game until she one so that the twins would give her the slip with the combinatin to open up their parents' safe. They found their promise to be broken late one night as she had smashed their piggy bank and was on her way out of the house with the money from the safe. After that, they both had an exceedingly hard time trusting anyone ever again. Up until Tamaki correctly guessed whom was who, they stuck to themselves, but after correctly guessing they reluctantly agreed to join the Host Club. Karou is very good at figuring people out, as he has always monitored Hikaru's emotions.

Kaoru is the more understanding, mature, and level-headed of the twins. He is pleasant and selfless when he isn't with Hikaru. He carries himself seriously and is very understanding, he also has an innate sense of self-control. As soon as he is joined back up with Hikaru, however, he goes back to being like a scamp and mischievous in demeanor.
